1.        distinguish  [dɪˈstɪŋɡwɪʃ]
Definition: tell, become famous, attract others’ attention
For example: At what age are children able to distinguish from right and wrong.
2.        direction [dɪˈrɛkʃən]
Definition:  dimension, trend
For example: The direction of the prevailing winds should be taken into account.
3.        diverse [daɪˈvɜ:rs]
Definition: different, variant, changeable
For example: India has always been one of the most religiously diverse countries.
4.        discuss [dɪˈskʌs]
Definition: talk about something, negotiate
For example: They will discuss how to bail the economy out of its slump.
5.        display [dɪˈsple]
Definition: exhibit, indicator, show off, extent
For example: It was an incredible display of motherly love and forgiveness.
6.        dismiss  [dɪsˈmɪs]
Definition: fire, send back, refuse, neglect
For example: I think we can safely dismiss their objections.
7.        discrepancy [dɪˈskrɛpənsi]
Definition: contradiction, not correspond, gap
For example: There was a discrepancy in the two reports of the accident.
8.        discharge [dɪsˈtʃɑ:rdʒ]
Definition: unload, enforce, fire, flow out, launch,
For example: Discharge of raw sewage into the sea is unsanitary and unsafe.
9.         accelerate
Definition: hurry, hasten, quicken
For example: The car accelerated.
10.    adopt
Definition: accept, assume, approve
For example: Britain is free to adopt policies to bolster its economy.
11.    affection
Definition: love, liking, fondness
For example: Normally, such an outward display of affection is reserved for his mother.
12.    anticipate
Definition: forestall, antedate, do in advance
For example: What Jeff did was to anticipate my next question.
13.    curriculum
Definition: prospectus, syllabus, program
For example: The national curriculum must be a guide, not a straitjacket.
14.    disorder
Definition: complaint, illness, sickness
For example: There are other forms of civil disorder — most notably, football hooliganism.   
15.    extraordinary
Definition: strange, odd, unusual

Definition: agitated, hyper, wired
For example: His research was used in planning treatments for hyperactive children.

Definition: living, income, maintenance
For example: Predatory pricing by large supermarkets was threatening the livelihood of smaller businesses.

Definition: step, stride, leap
For example: Interest rates would come down as the recovery gathered pace.

Definition: boring, dull, monotonous
For example: Suddenly music that seemed dull and repetitive comes alive.

For example: The higher we climbed, the more awe-inspiring the scenery became.
21.    strain
Definition: straining, draining, rinsing
For example: The whole ship shuddered and trembled at the sudden strain.

Definition: obtain, get, gain
For example: Perhaps we did acquire a somewhat fuddy-duddy image in the later years.
23.    admiration
Definition: respect, esteem, approbation
For example: She is full of admiration for the head and teachers.
24.    adversity
Definition: hardship, difficulty, danger

Definition: settle, check, authorize

For example: His new role could confirm him as one of our leading actors.
